Alveopora, typically referred to as a flowerpot coral, grows hemispherically (ball like) or columnar (branching), and can be distinguished from its relative Goniopora by counting the amount of tentacles around its polyp.
Alveopora corals have 12 tentacles, while Goniopora has 24. The fleshy tentacles can grow and extend several inches away from the skeletal structure of the coral during the day, and likes to retract at night.
Although Alveopora is rumored to be easier to care for than Goniopora, extra care should be taken before a hobbyist purchases one for their tank. They like low to moderate lighting and moderate to high flow, and, do better in older, more stable/matured systems.
Alveopora are mainly photosynthetic, relying on the products of their zooxanthellae, they do enjoy being fed phytoplankton and zooplankton, as well as other products like Coral Feast, Reef Energy, and Amino Acids.

Of course, you should always maintain proper water parameters by maintaining good calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity levels.
